As we prepare to welcome baby number two, the nesting phase is in full swing! I’ve been focusing on creating a clean, safe environment, and I’m all about using non-toxic cleaning products this time around. From gentle disinfectants to non-toxic laundry soap, I’m committed to keeping harmful chemicals out of our home while making sure everything is ready for the new arrival.
Nesting To-Do List & Non-Toxic Cleaning Tips
Cleaning Baby Gear:
- Clean Doona base with Force of Nature disinfectant spray. It’s my go-to for a non-toxic deep clean. This miracle cleaner uses electricity to convert salt, water, and vinegar into a powerful disinfectant, killing 99.9% of germs. Discount link here – code BUNDLESAVINGS.
- Wash Doona insert on a gentle cycle with Attitude laundry soap, then lay flat to air dry (hanging can distort its shape).
- Install Doona base, seat cover, and mirror. Check out this dual camera monitor for the car!
- Clean stroller bassinet insert on a gentle cycle and air dry.
- Wash covers for the boppy, lounger, and play equipment to freshen them up for the new baby.
- Wash swing insert and wipe down the swing frame with Force of Nature spray.
- Wipe down Snoo with either Force of Nature spray or a mixture of warm water, a tiny amount of vinegar, and a drop of laundry detergent. Rinse with clean warm water afterward.
Preparing Baby Essentials:
- Wash playmat and bouncer cover.
- Set up changing station in your room with wipes, diapers, cream (10% off Earth Mama), and a touch nightlight.
- Set up diaper station in the baby’s room with the Hatch scale changing pad and organic liners.
- Buy formula—I like adding a little to the night bottle for longer sleep stretches.
- Set up the baby monitor—I recommend the Nanit floor stand for easy portability. Use code ErinWessley15 for savings.
- Find the baby shusher—it’s amazing for soothing!
- Set up sound machine—the Hatch sound machine is my favorite for easy customization.
Organizing Nursery and Clothes:
- Go through baby #1’s clothes, decide what can be reused, and organize. I wash everything with Attitude laundry soap.
- Set up nursery decor: All nursery decor linked here!
- Organize nursery closet with hanging organizers and bamboo drawer separators. The Marie Kondo folding method is a game-changer!
- Use drawer organizer boxes for small baby essentials like pacifiers, socks, mittens, and hats. Squid socks are the best for staying on!
- Wash blankets, swaddles, and carriers—my favorite is the Ollie Swaddle.
Preparing for Postpartum:
- Stock up on postpartum essentials: Freezer meals are a lifesaver. Check out my meal prep guide for recipes and pre-made options.
- Create a shared note with your partner or caretaker for quick reference on postpartum meal items and their locations.
- Pack a minimal hospital bag—check out my hospital bag essentials post.
- Stock a recovery caddy with post-birth essentials (silicone strips for C-section recovery), comfy undies, and organic pads.
- Set up a feeding caddy with all the essentials—pump, lactation massagers, pacifiers, burp cloths, and Boon Trove milk collection cups.
Why Non-Toxic Cleaning?
