Two under two—it’s a beautiful, intense, and sometimes overwhelming journey. Whether you’re in the early weeks or navigating those first years, here’s what I learned that made life a little smoother:

All 2 under 2 must haves linked here!

1. Babywearing is a Lifesaver

Keeping your newborn close in a baby carrier or wrap frees up your hands and allows you to focus on your toddler. It also fosters bonding and can soothe a fussy baby while you manage the older sibling’s needs. Look for ergonomic options that support both your back and the baby’s posture.

2. Wearable Pumps Give Freedom

Pumping doesn’t have to tie you to a chair. A wearable pump allows you to multitask, chase toddlers, or get some self-care time while expressing milk. Exclusive pumping gave me so much flexibility—I shared more on that [here]!

3. Neutral First Meetings Matter

When introducing the older sibling to the baby, choose a neutral setting. Instead of holding the baby, place them in a bassinet or dock-a-tot. This approach reduces jealousy and makes the older child feel more comfortable meeting their new sibling on equal ground.

4. Involve Your Older Child

Make the older sibling feel included by referring to the baby as “our baby.” Assign small, manageable tasks, like bringing a diaper or singing to the baby. This fosters a sense of responsibility and reduces feelings of rivalry.

5. Create Baby Stations in Every Room

Set up baby essentials—like a play mat, swing, or bouncer—in each main room. This way, you can easily put the baby down and tend to your toddler without running back and forth.

6. Toddler Memories Matter

Your baby won’t remember if they’re put down for a few minutes, but your toddler might. If your older child needs attention, it’s okay to prioritize them. They’re more emotionally aware and adjusting to a major life change, so a little extra love goes a long way.

7. Partner Up

Teamwork with your partner is essential. Share responsibilities, openly discuss what’s working (and what’s not), and find routines that work for everyone. Remember, you don’t have to do it all yourself.

Bonus Tips for Navigating Two Under Two:

8. Have a “Busy Box” for Your Toddler

Keep a special box with toys, puzzles, or activities your toddler only uses during baby’s nap or feeding times. It keeps them engaged while you’re focused on the baby.

9. Sync Naps When Possible

It’s not always easy, but if you can get both kids napping at the same time, it’s a game-changer. Even if it’s just for 30 minutes, that quiet time can help you recharge.

10. Simplify Mealtime

Prepare easy, toddler-friendly meals and snacks ahead of time. Finger foods, pre-cut fruits, and healthy snacks can save you from a meltdown while feeding the baby. Also, involve your toddler in meal prep—they’ll feel included and more excited to eat.

11. Take Breaks (Even Small Ones!)

Don’t underestimate the power of 10 quiet minutes with a cup of coffee or a quick walk around the block. Self-care helps you stay present and patient.

Two under two is no small feat, but with a little preparation and a lot of love, it’s a journey full of growth, laughter, and incredible memories. 💕
